Session 3

A technology that is fairly recent in my library was the implementation of Evergreen.  It is a software program for libraries to share their catalog online.  As a patron, I love being able to look online to check out books at either my library or another library in the consortium. I can renew or hold items at the click of a button. In speaking with my librarian, she said that everyone is very happy with the program because they have more books accessible to them.  She also said it helps her to have patron information right at her fingertips, she can run reports, and if a person is looking for a book she can look to see if it is checked out instead of having to look on the shelf.  It is very helpful and a wonderful addition to the library!

Search Skills Blog

The article I found was called Deep Reading: Using Technology to Engage, Connect and Share.  The author’s name is Sue C. Kimmel.  It was published in the March/April of 2012 in the Library Media Connection.  I found this article in the Academic Search Premier Database.  I searched to find out about the e-reader trend.   My local library does not have this technology at this time.  It would be great if my library offered e-books and readers, I think it is something that will continue to grow in popularity.  I hope that libraries will always have good old-fashioned books but offer this as well.

  • What are your personal thoughts on this trend? Do you think this is a good trend for libraries?

First Assignment

I have heard of WordPress, I have read a few blog posts of my friends on this site.   I did not have a problem with the set up of the blog but I am having difficulty with figuring out how to post this first assignment.  I will eventually figure it out.  I did have another blog previously but I did not keep it up.
